Employment Support
Employment Support
|
Employment Support is a successful pilot project that has managed to help several people into employment. The project covers Taunton Deane and West Somerset, but we hope with further funding it will cover the whole of Somerset. The project is aimed at those people who are not in secondary care and feel that their mental health problems are stopping them from working. You can only be referred to this project via Jobcentre Plus.

What is Employment Support?
Employment Support is about assisting individuals to gain the employment they require and also the support continues whilst in employment. Our Employment Support worker will help with the job search, as well as contacting employers, arranging interviews and supporting our customers in the interview if required. Support workers will also make regular visits to the employer and customer to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Why does it exist?
People experiencing mental distress often encounter difficulties trying to find employment. Employment can bring structure to people's lives, which also helps raise their confidence, selfesteem, self-awareness and motivation. This in turn promotes a healthier lifestyle and improves different aspects of a person's life, leading to an overall increase in well-being.
Who is it for?
Employment support is for people who are experiencing mental distress and are not currently in secondary services (i.e. not in contact with a Community Psychiatric Nurse, care coordinator etc) who feel that their issues are causing a barrier to finding work. The services are for people who wish to go straight into work and sustain long term employment. The Individual must be referred to the Employment Support Project by the job centre Plus. Everyone being referred to the project will receive as much support as they require. There will be no time limit to this support (for as long as the project is running).
