The Food for Life project works with local farmers and the
local community. Its principal aims are to give volunteer opportunities
to individuals who are experiencing mental health related issues, and by
this they will be offering very high quality, fresh, local produce for
sale to the local community at affordable prices.
Food for Life has been running now since 2008. At the
beginning Mind took on an additional employee, whose knowledge in
setting up local food co-ops and who had dealings with local farmers,
helped immensely in doing all the contact with local producers,
research, marketing and promotional aspects. With volunteers coming on
board, from Peace of Mind and students
from the Food for life course at Somerset College, it soon assembled
enough people to deliver the project.
The project offers individuals many different roles within its
set-up, from weighing and packing vegetables, collection of produce from
the local farmers market, sorting various other produce from meat packs,
sausages, eggs, trout and fruit. Once all the produce has been
collected, sorted and bagged up, there are different roles at our shop
and other selling outlets that need carrying out. Meeting and greeting
customers, handing over food items, handling money, making refreshments
and many more.
Food for life aims to provide high quality produce to its customers.
Our suppliers come from the Quantock Hills, Blackdown Hills, and just
outside of Taunton. We’ve built up very strong relationships with all
our suppliers which in turn have helped us to secure discounted rates
from them.
At present we sell our items at Chamberlains Café, North St
Church, Taunton, the Mind office in Taunton and Somerset College in
Taunton.
If you are interested in possibly buying some produce from us then we
