Mindline
"I
am so glad you are here for me"
"Thank you for being there and listening"
The service offers a confidential support and signposting service on a Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from 8pm until Midnight. Additionally, enhancements to the service mean that callers can be seamlessly switched through to the Mind Infoline from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday; WAND (Working Advocacy in North Devon) whose lines are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 8pm until 11pm; and The Samaritans:- 24/7 . The result is that any caller can speak to a call handler 24 hours a day/7 days a week – which we feel is a truly valuable service.
It doesn't matter who you are. If you are in a crisis, despairing or
suicidal, it can make all the difference to talk to someone about how you
are feeling.
You can speak to any of our volunteers in total confidence about anything
that is troubling you.
Be assured that we will not judge, we will not tell you what to do, but
we will listen and help you to think things through from a different
perspective.
About us
Mindline Somerset is open four nights a week: Wednesday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, 8pm to Midnight.
Mindline volunteers are just everyday people like you who decide they can
offer their time and support to listen to others. Some may have a particular
interest in mental health, while others may be survivors or have looked
after someone close to them who has experienced distress. The volunteers are
fully trained and receive ongoing training and support. All have an
understanding of what mental distress means for others.
Mindline is for anyone who is experiencing emotional distress. Callers
call for a variety of reasons such as feeling down through loss of a job,
going through a divorce or experiencing mental ill-health. Carers and
statuary/voluntary services also ring for helpful information. Our callers
are of all ages and whether they need our support, require information or
signposting to other agencies we give them the time and space to talk, to be
heard, consider their options with understanding and encouragement.
All
calls are treated with respect and confidentiality. Mindline respects all of its callers and
positively supports their rights within the community.
We believe in the
freedom of people to make informed choices.

More information
MINDLINE volunteers attend an initial training course. The training is carried out in small groups. It covers basic
counselling skills, a wide range of mental health issues and how to support
vulnerable people who maybe in crisis or just need to talk.
On successfully
completing the course volunteers receive a certificate enabling them to
provide support on Mindline.
