What
is Peace of Mind?
Peace of Mind
is a drop-in for people living in Taunon and surrounding area who
experience mental distress and ill-health. Please see below for opening
times. It's easy to become a member of Peace of Mind. A simple referral
process is required and once referred Peace of Mind members are welcome to
drop in for a coffee and chat or to take part in any of the activities
they choose. Staff can also help with filling in forms, writing letters,
assisting in helping to make phone calls and keeping appointments. A range
of books and leaflets on a variety of subjects are available too.
Peace
of Mind offers an environment where members' fears and problems can be
voiced and heard in a non-judgmental way and respect for people's beliefs,
ideas, and thoughts are very important to both members and staff at the
project.
The aims of Peace of Mind are to provide a supportive environment for
users/survivors of mental health services, to encourage self-help,
independence and recovery, to question traditional attitudes to mental
illness and to offer an independent service which is separate from
institutional medical services.

The centre is open for 'drop-in' on Wednesdays and Fridays from
9.30am-3.30pm when there is the opportunity to have guitar or violin
tuition.
We have a fortnightly reading group.
You can have some one-to-one time with your named support worker or
just relax in a social group setting.
Mondays offer more structured activities such as therapeutic art
workshops and the regular conservation group at Hestercombe House.
The Thursday Group run a local community food co-op which welcomes
anyone who would like to get involved - from leaflet dropping to helping
weigh and sort the produce and take orders for fruit and veg.
The very popular Saturday rambling group continues to meet and walk in
all weathers and offers two levels of walks for different abilities, which
means that newcomers have the chance to begin with a gentle short walk and
gradually build up to a longer, more challenging ramble.
Members can also benefit from closer involvement with the SUCH project,
a complimentary health service for Service Users, where you can access a
range of therapies such as Aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian Head Massage,
and guidance on healthy eating.
