People suffering from mental distress can often feel isolated. In small
communities and in rural areas such as West Somerset that sense of isolation
can seem greater. The Inclusion Project and its outreach services aim to
address this. What's on in West Somerset?
Dulverton Outreach:
For advice and information. Fridays 10.00-11.00 a.m. at Fishers Mead
Community Room, Dulverton. Appointments can be made between 11.00 - 12.00.
Monday Drop-In:
11.00am - 1.00pm at The Ark Room, The Parks Baptist Church, Minehead. For
just £1 a week individuals can access a range of activities including
relaxation sessions, monthly ‘Walk & Talk’ session, discussion groups and
monthly speakers from agencies such as Supported Employment, WISH and SWEDA.
A chance for people to sit and chat with each other in a supported
environment.
Thursday Relaxation in Watchet:
10.00 - 11.30am at Ingrams Meadow Community room, off Liddymore Road,
Watchet. This group offers weekly relaxation sessions supported by Mind
staff and volunteers. Sessions are free to all.
Listening Service
This affordable service provides 6 weeks of one-to-one sessions to work
through individual’s current issues and problems. All our volunteers
listeners have a counselling or listening background. Cost: £2 per session.
Community Access
We currently have a group of volunteers who can accompany service users to
community activities on a short-term basis until the service user is
confident enough to go alone. We envisage this to be for no more than 6-8
weeks and the service user would need to have identified a specific activity
or goal that they need support achieving. We also provide support for people
to attend benefit interviews or hospital appointments.
